Heifer animals (and training in their care) offer hungry families around the world a way to feed themselves and become self-reliant. Heifer International provides a contemporary way of living out Vincent’s approach of giving a “hand-up” rather than a “hand-out”. The Seva Foundation has a similar program.

Children receive nutritious milk or eggs; families earn income for school, health care and better housing; communities go beyond meeting immediate needs to fulfilling dreams. Farmers learn sustainable, environmentally sound agricultural techniques.
Last year Heifer International provided 28 different kinds of animals to families in more than 125 countries and in 38 U.S. states.
