Inside the waiting room at St. Joseph Hospital’s radiation oncology department, 75-year-old Sister Marie and 82-year-old Sister Owen Marie Falk start each day with coffee and treats, hugs and humor, transforming one of the gloomiest places in the hospital into one of the goofiest.
In the next four hours, they will crack bad jokes about glowing in the dark and sing songs about surviving; they’ll tease people and expect to be teased. They’ll also hold hands and rub backs. They’ll sympathize and soothe.
