“We welcome the call from the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Simon Crean, to stop the ‘blame game’ so as to tackle the twin scourges of poverty and inequality through a National Summit”, said Mr Brian Bull, Acting National President of the St Vincent de Paul Society.
“We call on all Federal and State political leaders to unite on this issue”, he added.
“This call for Summit endorses the call made by the heads of Australia’s major faiths, the ACTU, and community organisations in their statements to the recent Poverty Inquiry, each of whom see the Australian face of poverty every day. It has also been made by significant sections of the Business Community.”
