“The Association of the Miraculous Medal has three dimensions, Marian, Ecclesial, and Vincentian. The first of these, the Marian dimension, and in particular how it affects formation, is the subject of this article. ”
But it is also good to remember some things in which our formation must abound on:
* Among the Marian associations recognized by the Church, it is the only one that arose with a picture-image of Mary, given by her — in her medal — and expresses her desire that all wear and invoke it because of the promise of abundant graces;
* Even if Mary is a common denominator among many associations, the Association of the Miraculous Medal has some unique traits that differentiate it from the others. Among the unique traits that have to be respected and cultivated, are: the medal, the Association’s constitution and organization, its purposes and spirit, and, above all, the relationship between Mary and the members that has been established and should be promoted.
(Father Antonio Elduayen is a Vincentian priest from Peru, who directs the Center for Vincentian Spirituality in that country. He spoke at the Association of the Miraculous Medal International Encounter in Rome during October 2001. This article summarizes part of his talk.)
