Fr. Michael Shea writes “For the past three years I have had the opportunity and privilege of going to Juarez during my Christmas vacation with a very energetic group of men and women from Western Michigan. The mixture of “missionaries” is a fine blend of people from high school teenagers to adults of any age. We prepare for the thirty-five hour bus trip by celebrating Mass and eating breakfast at St. Lazare?s, a Vincentian Retreat House in Spring Lake, Michigan.
That bus trip is an essential part of the missionary experience. It enables the volunteers to get to know one another, becoming one community through common prayer, conversation, and responding to various challenges.
