Federal Funding Available for State/Local Anti-Hunger Organizations: Application Deadline -May 25, 2002! The Community Food and Nutrition Program (CFNP) is the primary source of federal funding for anti-hunger and nutrition advocacy groups at the local, state and national level. The purpose of the program is to provide hunger relief and to improve the nutritional status of low-income families.
States, public agencies, public and private non-profit agencies/organizations, and Community Action Agencies are eligible to receive funds. Applicants must demonstrate that they have successfully developed and implemented anti-hunger programs in their state or community. To receive CFNP funding, programs must: 1) coordinate private and public food assistance resources to better serve low-income populations; 2) identify potential sponsors of child nutrition programs and initiate programs in under-served or unserved areas; and 3) develop innovative approaches (state and local level) to meet nutritional needs of low-income individuals.
Competitive grants of up to $50,000 each are available through the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. New requests for funding are now being accepted through May 25th. Information and application forms can be found at http://aspe.hhs.gov/cfda/p93571.htm
