“The Boldness of Charity for a New Missionary Momentum,” is the shared theme of all of the Daughters of Charity Provincial Assemblies to be held throughout the world in 2014. Provincial Assembly Underway for the Daughters of Charity Province of St. Louise-USA Sister Louise Gallahue, D.C., Visitatrix of the Province of St. Louise-USA, welcomed the 274 attending Sisters and officially opened the Provincial Assembly on Sunday evening, June 22. The intentions of the Assembly include:
- Honoring the Province’s three-year journey as the Province of St. Louise.
- Deepening the Province’s evolving identity as the Province of St. Louise.
- Articulating priorities for the Province that incarnate The Boldness of Charity for a New Missionary Momentum.
- Contributing wisdom to the international assembly process in advance of the General Assembly that will be held in Paris, France, in May of 2015.
Father Tom McKenna, C.M., Director of the Province of St. Louise-USA, celebrated Monday’s Mass. Father Tom’s homily called the Daughters to pray that they discern the prompting of the Holy Spirit so that no matter what their own convictions, opinions or passions may be, the Holy Spirit’s desires may constitute the last word. A Prayer Ritual, Province Transition, July 2011 – July 2014, celebrated the Province’s recently closed missions. Monday afternoon, Sister Louise and Sister Jane Graves, D.C., Provincial Treasurer, delivered the State of the Province report. Father Patrick Griffin, C.M., then led the Daughters into a retreat atmosphere as he presented “Assemblies, A Time of Grace.” Tuesday morning, Father Griffin continued his presentation with “Sent on Mission.” The Provincial Assembly will continue through Saturday morning, June 28. In addition to discussions and voting, the attending Sisters will hear presentations about the identity of Daughters of Charity as a Society of Apostolic Life and about Human Trafficking in 2014.
