The Blessed Alberto Hurtado (1901-1952), one of the most renowned persons of the Catholic Church in Chile. His canonization is marked for October 23th, in Rome

This issue was researched by Gesiel Junior, member of SSVP in San Pablo (Brazil) and one of the coordinators of “Network of Charity Week News Agency” (www.rededecaridade.com.br).

In his researches about the future Chilean saint, whom he admired, Gesiel Junior discovered many files proving that the former student of Law, Alberto Hurtado Cruchaga (photos), wrote the text “Frederic Ozanam” to the “Marian Events” magazine in June of 1920.

“By the year of 1922, we find registers of Hurtado’s participation in meetings of the SSVP in Santiago, capital of Chile, what can prove his adhesion to the charisma of Ozanam. Later, as a Jesuit priest, Father Hurtado established the “House of Christ” to receive the poor homeless”, said Gesiel.

The Brazilian writer is preparing a biographical assay about the new Latin American saint, who will probably be the first to be canonized by Pope Benedict XVI.
