Kingly and Faithful Witnesses to the Truth

Jesus is the King that God has raised. Hence, his kingdom is not from this world of lies. And he expects his disciples to be kingly witnesses to the truth as he.

Jesus says before Pilate that he is King. But he makes clear his kingdom is not of this world. It is not one more kingdom among those that are in the world. For the kingly rulers of nations lord over their people, oppress them and lie to them to stay in power. They have at their beck and call guards that will fight, kill and die for them.

To those who hold kingly sway, yes, power matters more than the common good. They put their interests ahead of family ties and friendship. That is why they have no permanent friends or enemies, only interests. Those who are noble or kingly only use others; better, they abuse them. For the only truth they know are themselves and their craving for seats of profit and honor.

But God is the truth above all truths since he alone is absolutely firm, solid, reliable. Before him, the nobles are but a lie (Ps 62, 10). On a balance with all the rest, they weigh no more than a breath.

And from this God comes the kingdom of the one who has been handed over to a pagan. It is the same kingdom that we pray come to us who are in the world. And so, though not from here, still it should be here.

Witnesses of the kingly truths

Yes, the kingdom of heaven has to be here, so that the Father’s will may be done here as there. So that his truth may reign.

And Jesus states that he is here to witness to this truth. Since he comes from the kingly ones of Rome, Pilate seizes the power of life and death over Jesus. But the accused tells him the truth that to have power is up to God. And he can turn fault into bliss.

But the first of the kingly truths to which Jesus witnesses is this: God is Father to us all. Hence, we are all brothers and sisters. And, of course, our good Father cares for the least and neediest of his children. For he wants no one to be with no help, to sit at the edge of the road. He seeks for all a kingdom that is just, human, not steeped in sin.

Hence, we are to treat each other fairly and with love. And we will not deny that God is our Father and we are all brothers and sister. But we may just do so if we think we are more guardians than witnesses of the truth. If we turn authoritarian, dogmatic.

But rather, we should be perfect and merciful as our Father. We must be like Jesus, too, God’s truth made flesh. On the cross, he decries the lack of justice and love in the kingdoms of the world. And he shows us at the same time the way to live and die so that truth reigns here. But if we do not know what flesh or body is about (1 Cor 11, 29), we will not be of the truth. We will not heed it nor know the best way to assure our salvation (SV.EN III:384).

Lord Jesus, make us proclaim your kingdom and be, though small, kingly witnesses to the truth like you. Like your Mother, to whom we also turn.

Reales y fieles testigos de la verdad

Jesús es el Rey que ha suscitado Dios. Su reino, por lo tanto, no es de este mundo de mentiras. Y espera que sus discípulos sean, al igual que él, reales testigos de la verdad.

Ante Pilato, se dice Rey Jesús. Pero aclara que su reino no es de este mundo. No es uno más de los reinos que se hallan en el mundo. Pues los jefes reales de los pueblos los tiranizan y oprimen, y mienten, para aferrarse al poder. Esos grandes tienen bajo su mando guardias que luchen, maten y mueran por ellos.

Sí, les importa más a las reales autoridades del mundo el poder que el bien común. Anteponen sus intereses a los lazos de parentezco y amistad. Es por eso que no tienen amigos ni enemigos permanentes, tan solo intereses. Los nobles o reales solo usan a los demás; mejor dicho, se abusan de ellos. Pues toman a sí mismos, sus ambiciones de asientos de lucro y honor, por la sola verdad que hay.

Pero Dios es la verdad que está por encima de todas. Es que él solo es, en absoluto, firme, sólido, fiable. Ante él, los nobles son apariencia (Sal 62, 10). Puestos en la balanza con los demás, pesan menos que un soplo.

Y de ese Dios viene el reino del que se ha entregado en manos de un pagano. Es el mismo reino que pedimos que venga a los que estamos en el mundo. Así que si bien no es de aquí, el reino empero ha de estar aquí.

Testigos de las verdades reales

Aquí ha de estar el reino del cielo, sí, para que se haga la voluntad del Padre acá como allá. Para que reine su verdad.

Y testigo de esa verdad se declara Jesús. Por ser de los reales de Roma, se arroga Pilato el derecho de vida y muerte sobre Jesús. Pero el acusado le dice la verdad de que hay autoridad solo por disposición de Dios. Y éste hará más tarde que la culpa se vuelva feliz.

Pero la primera de las verdades reales de las que es testigo Jesús es ésta: Dios es Padre de todos. Somos todos, por lo tanto, hermanos y hermanas. Y, claro, se preocupa nuestro buen Padre de los más pequeños y necesitados de sus hijos. Es que no quiere a nadie desamparado, sentado al borde del camino. Busca para todos un reino justo, humano, no empecatado.

Por lo tanto, nos hemos de tratar los unos a los otros con justicia y amor. No desmentiremos que Dios es nuestro Padre y somos hermanos todos. Y esto lo haremos si, por creernos más guardianes que testigos de la verdad, nos hacemos autoritarios, dogmáticos.

Nos toca, más bien, ser perfectos y compasivos como nuestro Padre. También seremos como Jesús, la verdad de Dios hecha carne. En la cruz, denuncia él la falta de justicia y de amor en los reinos del mundo. Y revela él a la vez el modo de vivir y morir para que reine aquí la verdad. Pero si no captamos de qué carne o cuerpo se trata (1 Cor 11, 29), no seremos de la verdad, ni testigos de ella. Ni la escucharemos. Tampoco nos enteraremos del mejor modo de asegurar nuestra salvación (SV.ES III:359), y nos condenaremos además a nosotros mismos.

Señor Jesús, haz que anunciemos tu reino y seamos, aunque pequeños, reales testigos de la verdad al igual que tú. Y al igual que tu Madre, a la que recurrimos también.
