“We Shall Not Be Moved” deepened my commitment to New Orleans and to my vocation in Religious life. The stories told, especially after the experience of Hurricane Isaac just a few weeks before, reminded me of the deep faith of the people who live here. The Sisters’ dedication and decisions reminded me that life can change in an instant, but that our God is good and faithful through it all. I am sure the film will be embraced everywhere it is shown.
-Sr. Monica Gundler, SC writes of the film funded by the Sisters of Charity Ministry Foundation.

The premiere of the documentary “We Shall Not Be Moved: The Catholic Sisters of New Orleans” was held in New Orleans on September 15. The premiere was attended by over 150 people, including religious sisters, families and supporters of the film, the film’s production team NewGroup Media, and SC Ministry Foundation staff.

The goal of the film, which was a 2 ½ year project, is to show the faith and resilience of women religious through the experiences of Hurricane Katrina;s destruction. Responses from the audience affirmed the power and poignancy of their story.

Sr. Mary Kay Kinberger was the congregational leader of the Marianites of Holy Cross during the time of Hurricane Katrina. “I was amazed at the amount of information packed into less than an hour,” Sr. Kay shared. “I was deeply touched by the stories shared. I found myself experiencing a myriad of emotions throughout the film. In essence, it is a powerful reminder of our human frailty and the fidelity of God’s providence in all of our lives.”

Sr. Clare of Assisi Pierre, who is president of St. Mary’s Academy, a ministry of the Sisters of the Holy Family, commented that the film was “a work of true art, writing, editing, and storytelling. Thank you for telling the story of these ‘first responders,’ the story that may never had been told by any other media or medium. The indomitable spirit (Spirit) of the called is so vividly portrayed.”

The film is scheduled to be shown on 138 ABC stations during the time period between September 23 and November 18. A Cincinnati screening was held on September 27 at Seton High School and attended by many local Sisters and partners of SC Ministry Foundation.

The film was funded by SC Ministry Foundation, the Assembly of Catholic Foundations and other Catholic foundations and congregations of women religious. Sr. Sally Duffy, SC and Loretta Dees from SC Ministry Foundation serve as co-executive producers of the film.
