Saint Vincent de Paul taught that true charity is “inventive to infinity,” not mere generosity but a reflection of God’s Trinitarian love. To love God means to love the poor, making His love tangible in their lives. Through prayer and service, believers embody the Trinity’s unity, showing that love of God and love of neighbor are inseparable and must shape both mission and community.

Saint Vincent de Paul’s mission was rooted in prayer, the Eucharist, and seeing Christ in the poor. His love embraced all without distinction, calling the poor “our lords and masters.” For him, charity was sanctification, every act a sacrament of God’s mercy. Filled with the Spirit of Jesus, he invites us to pray, contemplate, and serve with hearts open to everyone.

Saint Vincent de Paul revolutionized care for the sick with a vision rooted in love, compassion, and respect. He urged seeing Christ in every patient, uniting material and spiritual care, and paying attention to small details. He pioneered holistic and professional nursing training, especially for the most abandoned, and taught that true service flows from a strong spiritual life.

Venerable Peter Joseph Triest, known as the “Belgian Vincent de Paul,” founded the Brothers and Sisters of Charity, inspired by Vincentian spirituality. Shaped by years of hidden prayer during the French Revolution, he united contemplation with action, love with professional service, and emphasized bringing God’s love and the joy of the Resurrection to the poor.
