On August 15, We Commemorate the Martyrdom—Dies Natalis—of Blessed Luis Belda y Soriano de Montoya, a Member of the SSVP
A jurist, husband, father, member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and active lay apostle, Luis Belda made faith a concrete way of serving people in need and participating in society. His life, cut short amid the violence of the summer of 1936, culminated in a witness of fidelity, forgiveness, and Christian hope.

Blessed Antonia Maria Verna (1773–1838) was an Italian woman of deep faith who founded the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception of Ivrea to educate children and care for the sick, especially the poor. Her life of humble service, unwavering trust in Providence, and Marian devotion left a lasting spiritual legacy, recognized by the Church in her beatification in 2011.

Jeanne Antide Thouret, born in 1765, lived deeply united to the charism of St. Vincent de Paul, serving the poor with fidelity even in times of persecution and religious dispersion. She founded the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Besançon, always remaining faithful to the spirit and teachings of the saint, whom she recognized as her Father and model.

Sister Francinaina Cirer Carbonell was born in Sencelles, Mallorca, in 1781. From a young age she devoted her life to serving those in need, founding the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul of Mallorca (Spain). Her life was characterized by her dedication to the most needy. She was beatified in 1989 by Pope John Paul II.

Ján Havlík was a Slovak seminarian who, despite communist persecution in Czechoslovakia, remained steadfast in his faith and endured imprisonment, torture, and forced labor in uranium mines. His martyrdom was recognized by the Church, and in 2024, he was beatified as a testament to resilience and fidelity to his religious vocation.
