What Is Just, True, Good and Pure

    by Ross Reyes Dizon | Sep 29, 2026 | Reflections | 0 comments

Jesus embodies thinking about and doing what is just, true, good, pure.  To be truly his means to be just, true, good, pure like him.

The Lord looks for what is just, what is right, in the house of Israel, in the Jews.  Yet what he finds in his chosen people is what is unjust that causes the poor to cry out.

No, what is just does not reign in Israel due to those who hoard houses and fields.  Hence, there is no room for others.  And due to those who early in the morning go after strong drink and hold feasts worrying about no one.  Due also to those who cheat blatantly.  And due to those who mistake evil for good and good for evil and to those who think they are wise.  Due, besides, to those judges who accept bribes.

Such injustices, yes, disappoint the Lord.  For he loves his people, and cares for them and meets their needs.

Of course, the Lord loves us also who we believe that we make up his new people.  And, surely, he looks for what is just, true, good, pure in us.  But do we not disappoint him also?  Do we do what is just, what is right, with those who are around us?  Are we simple and sincere in our dealings with each other, not duplicitous nor deceitful?   Do we not, out of greed, look out just for our interests?

Do we not refuse to listen to those who announce to us God’s word?  And by not minding the least of Jesus’ brothers and sister, do we not reject him?  And by being harsh and even cruel to them, by persecuting immigrants?

And let us watch out about turning down God’s grace.  For he may then give it to others (SV.EN XI:262. 319. 320).  Still and all, we have to admit that the rejected stone turns into the cornerstone.

Lord Jesus, grant that we think about and do what is just, true, good, pure.  And see to it that your body that you give up and your blood that you shed be our food and our drink.  Thus, you will be the center of our life, the cornerstone of our family.  And will also get to treasure the mysteries of your life and ponder them in our hearts.
