Today, September 16, 2026, we, the members of the Vincentian Family, pray for access to affordable and decent housing.

A safe and stable home is essential for human dignity. It gives people a place to rest, raise a family, study, work, recover from illness, and build relationships within a community.

Yet for millions, housing costs consume most of their income, while others live in overcrowded, unsafe, or temporary conditions. Some are forced to choose between paying rent and buying food, medicine, or school supplies. Others remain homeless despite working every day.

Saint Vincent de Paul understood that poverty is not only the absence of money but also the insecurity that deprives people of control over their own lives. Vincentian service calls us to meet immediate needs while also challenging policies and economic systems that make adequate housing inaccessible.

We pray today for people searching for a safe place to live, for families facing impossible rents, and for those sleeping in shelters, vehicles, or on the streets. May public authorities, communities, and institutions work together so that housing is treated as a human necessity rather than merely as a source of profit.

Word of God

“They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit.”
(Isaiah 65:21)

Prayer

God of refuge, protect all who live without a secure and decent home. Guide leaders toward just housing policies, strengthen those who serve people experiencing homelessness, and help us build communities where everyone has a place to belong. Amen.
