Today, September 15, 2026, we, the members of the Vincentian Family, pray for children born into cycles of debt and deprivation.
No child chooses the economic circumstances into which they are born. Yet millions begin life in families burdened by debt, unstable employment, inadequate housing, and limited access to food, healthcare, or education.
Poverty passed from one generation to the next can restrict opportunities before a child has taken their first steps. When basic needs depend on loans, unfair wages, or impossible sacrifices, families may become trapped in conditions they cannot overcome alone.
The Vincentian charism calls us to respond to immediate suffering while also addressing the structures that perpetuate poverty. Charity must feed, shelter, educate, and accompany, but it must also ask why children continue to inherit hardship.
We pray today for children growing up in deprivation and for their families. May public policies protect them, education open new possibilities, and economic systems place human dignity above profit. May every child receive the opportunity to develop their gifts and live without the weight of inherited debt.
Word of God
“Defend the weak and the orphan; maintain the right of the lowly and the destitute.”
(Psalm 82:3)
Prayer
God of justice, protect children born into poverty and debt. Strengthen their families, transform the systems that keep them trapped, and inspire us to build a world where every child can grow in security, dignity, and hope. Amen.
