A 5 Day Vincentian Retreat
The Vincentian Family Daily Intention: September 11, 2026
Today, September 11, 2026, we, the members of the Vincentian Family, pray for an end to every form of exploitation.
Exploitation takes many forms. It appears in forced labor, human trafficking, abusive working conditions, sexual violence, child labor, unfair wages, and systems that profit from the vulnerability of others.
Behind every case is a person whose dignity has been denied. Exploitation reduces human beings to instruments of profit, pleasure, or power. It thrives where poverty, fear, discrimination, and silence leave people without protection.
Saint Vincent de Paul recognized Christ in those who were neglected and mistreated. His response was not only to relieve suffering but also to organize practical action capable of defending life and restoring dignity.
We pray today for all who are exploited and for those working to free and protect them. May governments enforce just laws, businesses respect human rights, and communities refuse to benefit from the suffering of others. May we examine our own choices and reject every system that treats people as disposable.
Word of God
“Learn to do good; seek justice, rescue the oppressed.”
(Isaiah 1:17)
Prayer
God of justice and freedom, break the chains of exploitation wherever they exist. Protect the vulnerable, strengthen those who defend them, and transform every structure that places profit or power above human dignity. Amen.
On this same day, we also celebrate:
–the feast of St. John Gabriel Perboyre, C.M., a French priest of the Congregation of the Mission and the first saint associated with China to be canonized. Born in 1802 in southern France, he entered the Vincentians and longed to serve as a missionary. Sent to China in 1835, he ministered to Christian communities with courage and humility during a time of persecution. Betrayed, arrested, and tortured, he remained faithful to Christ and was martyred on September 11, 1840, in Wuchang. Beatified by Pope Leo XIII in 1889 and canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1996, he stands as a Vincentian witness of missionary zeal, patient suffering, and total trust in God.
–the foundation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Reconciliation, founded on September 11, 1921, in France by Marie Toublet. Recognized in Vincentian Family listings, the Congregation carries a name that expresses a deeply Christian mission: to be a sign of reconciliation, mercy, and renewed communion. Public information about the Institute is limited, but Vincentian sources identify it as part of the wider family inspired by the spirit of St. Vincent de Paul. Its foundation reminds us that charity is not only material assistance, but also the work of healing relationships, restoring dignity, and helping people rediscover the nearness of God’s compassionate love.
