Today, September 10, 2026, we, the members of the Vincentian Family, pray for people experiencing religious trauma.
Faith communities should be places of welcome, healing, and freedom. Yet some people have been wounded by spiritual manipulation, fear-based teaching, abuse of authority, exclusion, or the misuse of sacred language.
Religious trauma can affect a person’s trust, relationships, self-worth, and understanding of God. Some remain within the Church while carrying deep pain; others need distance in order to heal. Their experiences should never be dismissed or minimized.
Jesus did not burden the wounded. He defended those who were judged, confronted hypocrisy, and restored dignity to people pushed aside by religious structures.
We pray today for all who have suffered harm in religious settings. May they find safety, compassionate listening, professional support, and communities that respect their freedom. May Church leaders act with humility, accountability, and a sincere commitment to prevent further harm.
Word of God
“A bruised reed he will not break, and a dimly burning wick he will not quench.”
(Isaiah 42:3)
Prayer
Gentle God, remain close to those wounded in places where they sought You. Heal their memories, restore their freedom, and guide faith communities toward truth, accountability, and compassionate care. Amen.
