Today, September 1, 2026, we, the members of the Vincentian Family, pray for people resisting eviction from homes that have belonged to their families for generations.
A home handed down through generations is more than property. It carries memories, relationships, traditions, and a sense of belonging. When families face eviction because of rising costs, speculation, unjust laws, or redevelopment, they risk losing not only shelter but also a part of their identity.
The poor are often the first to be displaced when neighborhoods become profitable for others. Their voices are ignored, and decisions about their future are made without them. Saint Vincent de Paul teaches us that charity must defend dignity and confront the structures that push vulnerable people aside.
We pray today for families struggling to remain in the places where their roots run deep. May they receive fair legal protection, compassionate support, and a real voice in decisions that affect their homes and communities. May development serve people rather than erase them.
Word of God
“My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.”
(Isaiah 32:18)
Prayer
God of shelter and belonging, protect families threatened with displacement. Inspire leaders to defend the right to a safe home, and make us faithful companions to those fighting to preserve their dignity, history, and community. Amen.
