Today, August 29, 2026, we, the members of the Vincentian Family, pray for survivors of domestic violence rebuilding their lives.

Domestic violence leaves deep wounds that affect body, mind, and spirit. Even after escaping abusive situations, survivors often face fear, uncertainty, and the difficult task of rebuilding their lives.

As followers of Christ, we affirm the dignity of every person and reject all forms of violence and abuse. We are called to create communities where survivors are protected, believed, and supported.

We pray today for all survivors of domestic violence. May they find safety, healing, justice, and the strength to embrace a future filled with hope.

    Word of God

“The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.”
    (Psalm 9:9)

    Prayer

God of protection, be close to all who have suffered violence in their homes. Heal their wounds, restore their confidence, and surround them with people who offer care and support. Amen.

On this same day, we celebrate the foundation of the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul of Satmar, founded on August 29, 1842, by Bishop János Hám of Satu Mare, then part of the Kingdom of Hungary and now in Romania. Bishop Hám entrusted the formation of the first Sisters to the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul in Vienna-Gumpendorf, hoping to respond to the educational, moral, and social needs of his diocese. Although not founded directly by St. Vincent de Paul, the Congregation embraced Vincentian spirituality from its beginnings, dedicating itself to charity, education, care for the sick, and service to those in need. Its mission has continued as a witness of merciful love rooted in faith and practical service.
