–The foundation of the Congregation of Brothers of St. Joseph Benedetto Cottolengo, founded on August 15, 1833, in Turin, Italy, by St. Joseph Benedict Cottolengo. The Brothers, also known as the Cottolengo Brothers, are a lay religious Congregation rooted in the charism of the Little House of Divine Providence. From the beginning, their mission has been to serve people who are poor, sick, disabled, elderly, abandoned, or otherwise in need, recognizing in them the face of Christ and trusting in Divine Providence. The Brothers continue the Saint’s legacy of practical charity, humble service, and compassionate care for those whom society often forgets.

–The foundation of the Sisters of St. Joseph Benedetto Cottolengo, founded on August 15, 1833, in Turin, Italy, by St. Joseph Benedict Cottolengo. The first aspirants received the religious habit that day, and in 1834 the first Sisters professed their vows, beginning the group known as the Vincentian Sisters within the Little House of Divine Providence. Today the Sisters of St. Joseph Benedetto Cottolengo are a pontifical Institute, commonly called the Cottolengo Sisters, with contemplative and apostolic communities. Rooted in Cottolengo’s charism, they seek to serve God’s glory and the poorest with prayer, charity, compassionate care, and trust in Divine Providence
