SOLWODI Braunschweig, connected with the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul of Hildesheim, supports women and their children in moments of deep vulnerability. Many of the women who come to this ministry are migrants who have experienced human trafficking, forced prostitution, forced marriage, domestic violence, exploitation, or other forms of abuse. Some arrive in acute crisis. Some have no safe place to go. Many need not only practical help, but also time, trust, and a space where they can breathe again.

The work of SOLWODI Braunschweig begins with a simple but powerful conviction: no woman should be left alone when her dignity has been wounded.

The team offers psychosocial counseling and accompaniment, helps women access medical and legal support, accompanies them in contact with public authorities, assists with housing searches, and connects them with German language courses and other forms of qualification and integration. In this way, the project does not offer a single isolated service. It walks with each woman through the difficult process of recovering safety, confidence, independence, and hope.

This is deeply Vincentian work. St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac taught us to draw near to those whose suffering is often hidden from public view. Today, the suffering of women affected by trafficking and violence is one of those hidden wounds in our societies. It can remain unseen because it is surrounded by fear, silence, shame, legal insecurity, or social isolation.

SOLWODI Braunschweig helps break that silence.

Its ministry reminds the Vincentian Family and the wider public that charity is not only giving something. Sometimes charity means creating a protected space. Sometimes it means helping a woman speak without fear. Sometimes it means accompanying her to an office, a doctor, a lawyer, or a new home. Sometimes it means believing in her future before she is able to believe in it herself.
