Today, July 16, 2026, we, the members of the Vincentian Family, pray for a spirituality that resists despair and cynicism.
In a world marked by conflict, disappointment, and injustice, many people grow tired of hoping.
Cynicism can slowly harden the heart, making compassion seem naïve and goodness appear powerless.
Yet the Gospel calls us to hope—not a superficial optimism, but a deep trust that God continues to act through love, even in darkness.
Saint Vincent served during times of suffering and social collapse, but he never allowed despair to overcome charity.
We pray today for hearts rooted in hope, capable of believing that mercy still transforms lives and that goodness still matters.

Prayer
God of hope, protect us from bitterness and despair. Renew in us the courage to love, to serve, and to believe that Your light still shines in the world. Amen.
On this same day, we also celebrate:
–The foundation of the Sisters of Mary of the Miraculous Medal, a Vincentian religious Congregation founded in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 1878 by Mother Leopoldine Brandis. Its beginnings are linked to the first Sisters who received the habit and were sent to serve the needy, especially the sick. For many years they worked under the direction of the Daughters of Charity, becoming an independent Congregation in 1926. Their mission continues through compassionate care, education, prayer, and humble service.
–The foundation of the Sisters of St. Martha of PEI, the only religious Congregation born on Prince Edward Island, Canada. Founded on July 17, 1916, by Bishop Henry O’Leary, the community began with four Island women at St. Dunstan’s College in Charlottetown. Inspired by St. Martha’s spirit of loving service, the Sisters first offered hospitality and domestic service, and later expanded into education, health care, social ministry, and pastoral service for the people of the Island.
–The foundation of the Daughters of Divine Love, a Catholic Congregation of women religious founded on July 16, 1969, in Ukpor, Anambra State, Nigeria, by Bishop Godfrey Mary Paul Okoye, C.S.Sp., during the Nigerian-Biafran War. Born amid suffering and displacement, the Congregation became a sign of God’s compassionate love. Its Sisters profess poverty, chastity, and obedience, and serve through contemplation, education, health care, pastoral work, and practical charity in many countries.
