Today, July 9, 2026, we, the members of the Vincentian Family, pray for workers silenced when reporting workplace abuse.
Many workers suffer harassment, exploitation, discrimination, or unsafe conditions, yet remain silent out of fear of losing their jobs or being punished.
Injustice grows wherever the truth is silenced.
Saint Vincent called us to defend the dignity of the vulnerable and to stand beside those whose voices are ignored.
We pray today for workers who suffer abuse in silence, and for the courage to create workplaces rooted in justice, respect, and accountability.
Word of God
“Learn to do good; seek justice, rescue the oppressed.”
(Isaiah 1:17)
Prayer
God of justice, protect workers who feel powerless and afraid. Give courage to those who speak the truth, and convert systems that permit abuse. Amen.
On this same day, we also celebrate:
–The foundation of the Hospital Sisters of the Holy Cross, a Catholic religious Congregation that began in Barcelona in 1792 as a pious association founded by Mother Teresa Cortés y Baró to serve the sick and needy. Later, on July 16, 1927, it was formally constituted as a religious Congregation. Rooted in charity, hospitality, and the mystery of the Cross, the Sisters continue their mission among the poor, the elderly, the infirm, and those most in need.
–The feast of St. Francis Regis Clet, C.M., a French Vincentian missionary priest born in Grenoble in 1748. After teaching theology and forming seminarians, he volunteered for the missions during the French Revolution and spent decades evangelizing in China. Arrested during persecution, he endured imprisonment and suffering with steadfast faith, and was martyred by strangulation in Wuchang in 1820. Canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2000, he is honored among the Martyr Saints of China.
