A Historical Moment for the Vincentian Family in Africa and Madagascar
The Vincentian Family of Africa and Madagascar gathered in Nairobi on June 19, 2026, for the convening of the First Continental Congress of the Vincentian Family of Africa and Madagascar. Young Vincentians from the Daughters of Charity, the Congregation of the Mission, and VMY joined nearly 50 delegates from 16 countries for the opening Eucharistic Celebration. Praise abounded in prayer, joy, and unity to God, who had brought this moment to fulfillment after many months of preparation.
In a beautiful retreat center adorned with flags from African countries, the meeting began with welcomes, introductions, vision-setting, and an in-depth look at the realities of Africa and Madagascar: a global cry for the Vincentian charism.
Next came the opportunity to see and feel the Vincentian charism in action as the group journeyed to Thigio, where the Daughters of Charity serve in an educational and therapeutic center for children with disabilities, as well as in a hospice for the critically ill. The love that flowed from that community of caregivers, children, and elderly guests wove all our hearts together, preparing us for our meetings in a way that could only be the work of the Spirit. Those whom we often think of as poor enriched our Vincentian Family with the virtues of humility, simplicity, and charity.
Thank you, God, for the opportunity to grow together in a living, global charism!
