The Hidden Housing Crisis No One Is Talking About

    by .famvin | Jun 18, 2026 | News

In Spain, as in so many other countries, the housing crisis has become one of the country’s most urgent social concerns. Public attention, quite rightly, often focuses on young people, working families, and the middle class, who are finding it increasingly difficult to rent or buy a home.

But there is another housing crisis that remains largely unseen.

It is the crisis faced by people living in extreme poverty and deep vulnerability—people for whom even renting a single room is out of reach.

The Daughters of Charity of the East Spain Province see this reality every day. Through their services, they accompany more than 1,200 people in processes related to access to housing. Many of them are not simply struggling to find an affordable home; they are completely excluded from even the most basic housing market.

For them, the issue is not only housing. It is housing together with social support. It is accompaniment. It is a process that helps sustain life, rebuild dignity, and open a real path out of extreme poverty.

For this reason, the Daughters of Charity have launched a public awareness video titled: “The Unknown Housing Problem No One Is Talking About”

The campaign is an act of prophetic denunciation: a way of raising their voice, pointing to an unjust and unjustifiable situation, standing with people in poverty and vulnerability, and becoming a sign of hope.

The goal is simple but urgent: to make visible the reality of those who are often the last of the last, the people who remain outside public debate and outside the housing system itself.

The Daughters of Charity are asking for help to share the video widely through social media. A small gesture—a like, a share, a message forwarded to others—can have a real impact. If the video reaches 5,000 likes, it may gain enough visibility to reach the media, bringing the voice of the most vulnerable into the public conversation.

Alongside the video, they have also launched the campaign: “Add a Brick…”

The image is simple and powerful: each donated “brick” is a real step toward helping someone move out of extreme poverty and closer to a home. Together, brick by brick, it is possible to build something different.

This is not only a call to donate. It is a call to look, to listen, to share, and to refuse indifference.

The Daughters of Charity invite us to help make this hidden crisis visible.

Watch, like, share, and help spread the message:

Because housing is not only about having a roof.
It is about dignity, accompaniment, and the possibility of beginning again.
