Born in 1874 in what is now Ukraine, she joined the Daughters of Charity at the age of 18, drawn by a deep desire to serve Christ in the poor. As a nurse, she was known for her kindness, strength, and gentle care, especially for the most marginalized patients. In 1904, while working in a hospital in Sniatyn, she volunteered to take the place of a colleague assigned to disinfect a room contaminated by typhus. She contracted the disease herself and died shortly after, offering her life as an act of charity. Beatified in 2008, Blessed Marta Anna Wiecka is a shining example of self-giving love and the sanctity found in everyday service.

—The feast of Blessed Matilde Téllez Robles, a Spanish foundress and woman of profound faith who devoted her life to serving the poorest and most abandoned. Born in 1841 in Robledillo de la Vera, Spain, she was drawn from a young age to prayer and charity. In 1875, she founded the Congregation of the Daughters of Mary, Mother of the Church, with a mission to care for the sick, orphans, and the elderly, especially in rural and neglected areas. Her life was marked by humility, perseverance, and unwavering trust in Divine Providence, even in the face of hardship and misunderstanding. Beatified in 2004, Blessed Matilde is remembered as a radiant witness to the Gospel and a spiritual mother to the poor, whose legacy of love continues through the sisters who follow in her footsteps.
