Seeing Christ in the face of the poor

Unite the Divided and Scattered

Christ gives us all access to the Father in the Holy Spirit.  He announces peace to us whom sin has driven apart and scattered.  For he seeks to unite us so that we may be one body.

We must love if we are to be united with God and with each other.  For only love can unite us all fully.

But we love since God has loved us first.  No, love is not about us loving.  Rather, it is about God loving us and sending his Son to be the sacrifice to take away our sins.  Yes, God is love.  And he makes this clear as he gives his only Son, his Word of love made flesh.

We, in turn, must make clear that we know God who is love.  That he is merciful and kind, slow to anger and full of love and true to us.  And we will do so if we love each other as Jesus has loved us.

To do so, of course, means we get to unite with each other.  We get to be “a people made one with the unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit” (LG 4).  It is to take delight in the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, in the love of God and in the communion of the Holy Spirit.  Besides, it is to undo the division that sin has caused and to avoid the “Babel sydrome” (MH 10).

And thus, actions will speak louder than words.  That is, we will love with the strength of our arms and the sweat of our brows (SV.EN XI:32).  To giving up our bodies and shedding our blood.  Hence, we will receive the hundredfold Jesus promises to those who leave all for his sake.

Lord Jesus, give us you Holy Spirit who alone can unite us who are divided because we are selfish.  And make us sense and taste you are close, the Father too, by the Holy Spirit.

    • Thanks, Tom. I hope and pray that these scattered thoughts help us and readers alike to grow in the grace of our Jesus Christ, in the love of God and in the communion of the Holy Spirit. so that we may all experience the “Trinity, up close and personal,” as you have so put it.
