Hogar La Milagrosa, a work of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul in Facatativá (Cundinamarca, Colombia), is an example of how history, service vocation, and innovation come together to dignify the lives of vulnerable older people.

Its origins date back to July 15, 1904, with the founding of the local Conference led by Luciano González, who donated the house that still serves as the home’s headquarters. In 1980, the Conference joined the International General Council, and in 1996 the Home was created to respond to the needs of older people without resources or family support, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

Today, the Home cares for 57 elderly residents, supported by a committed community made up of 9 Conference members, 14 staff members, and around 7 volunteers. Together, they implement a comprehensive care model that promotes physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, encouraging autonomy, memory, and personal life connections.

Among its initiatives is “La Milagrosa Stereo,” an internal radio station that stimulates memory, emotions, and participation through music and shared memories. This project is complemented by spaces such as the “Memoria Viva” audiovisual room, where innovative activities like virtual tours integrate technology into daily care.

The team’s work reflects the Vincentian spirit: accompanying, listening, and serving with the heart, always recognizing the dignity of each person.

With more than a century of history and nearly three decades as a home, La Milagrosa continues to evolve, combining tradition and innovation to meet today’s challenges, reaffirming that the well-being of older people is a living and essential mission.
