New Interest in SCN Associate Life in Ranchi
Nazareth Convent in Ranchi, India, welcomed a group of 23 individuals eager to learn more about the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth (SCN) Associate relationship. The group included 22 women and one man, each responding to an invitation from Sister Marianne Puthoor.
They gathered in the convent hall, where Sister Basanti Lakra offered a warm welcome and introduced the Associate Program. The gathering began with a quiet moment of reflection as Sister Marianne guided the group in meditation, helping set a thoughtful tone.
Sister Marianne then shared the story of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth. She traced the Congregation’s beginnings, its arrival in India at Mokama, and the growth of its mission across countries. She also spoke about the charism, values, and ministries that shape the life of the Sisters and Associates.
The session concluded with the SCNA prayer, followed by a shared meal. Members of the Community supported the gathering through planning and hospitality, creating a welcoming space for all who attended.
The gathering in Ranchi opened space for new connections and a shared commitment to care for creation and work for peace and justice with people who are marginalized. By the end of the program, 16 participants expressed their desire to continue the journey and begin formation as SCN Associates. Their response reflects growing interest in living the mission alongside the Sisters.
