At age 20, Louise made application to the Capuchin nuns in Paris. (Starting around the age of fifteen, Louise had felt drawn to the cloistered life.) Sadly for Louise at the time, she was refused admission to the Capuchins. It is not clear if her refusal was for her continual poor health or other reasons, but the director assured her that God had “other plans” for her.
“So Louise, being of age, left the boarding school and since she had been denied entrance into the cloister and having no other place to go, went to live with Valence d’Atticy, her aunt, to help care for her family of seven children.” (Source: A Woman Named Louise: 1591-1633 by Kieran Kneaves D.C.)
