Seeing Christ in the face of the poor

The Vincentian Family Daily Intention: April 13, 2026

Today, April 13, 2026, we, the members of the Vincentian Family, pray for communities rebuilding after natural disasters.

Earthquakes, floods, fires, droughts… in a single moment, homes are lost, crops destroyed, lives shattered.

Rebuilding means more than bricks—it is about regaining trust, healing wounds, and recovering purpose.

We pray today for all communities facing the aftermath of disaster. May they receive real help, human comfort, and shared hope.

Word of God
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
(Psalm 34:18)

Prayer
God who restores what is broken, strengthen those starting over. May Your presence dwell among the ruins and rise through acts of love. Amen.

On this same day, we also celebrate the foundation of the Vincentian Educational Charitable Foundation (VinCEF), established in 2007 in Osaka, Japan, by Mie Kudo and Etsuko Ito. Inspired by Vincentian values, this lay-led Foundation supports vulnerable communities through education, health care, and humanitarian outreach. VinCEF provides scholarships and school programs for students in the Philippines, Vietnam, and Myanmar, and collaborates with the Daughters of Charity on food programs and medical-dental missions. Their efforts also include building infrastructure like childcare centers, offering disaster relief in Japan and the Philippines, and sending material aid through balikbayan boxes— a large, sturdy cardboard container used by Filipinos living abroad to ship goods (often household items, toiletries, food, toys, and clothing) as a gift to family back home in the Philippines. Even handmade wool caps for foreign seafarers are part of their mission of compassionate service.
