In a world where children are surrounded by noise, screens, and fast-moving messages, We Are Friends arrives as a gentle, joyful, and deeply intentional musical project. Created by Javier F. Chento, this new album is designed especially for children up to around twelve years old, offering them songs that are easy to sing, fun to move to, and rich in values rooted in the Vincentian charism.
Following the release of Hearts On Fire, which was aimed primarily at Vincentian youth and liturgical celebrations, We Are Friends takes a clear step toward younger audiences. The album recognizes that faith, compassion, prayer, and service are not ideas to be learned later in life, but seeds to be planted early—through joy, repetition, trust, and relationships.
At its heart, We Are Friends is not simply a children’s album about faith. It is a musical journey through friendship, family life, prayer, forgiveness, care for creation, love for the poor, and a personal relationship with God. The language is simple without being simplistic; the melodies are playful yet reverent; and the theology is sound while remaining accessible to young hearts. Each song becomes an invitation: to sing, to pray, to act kindly, and to grow.
What makes this album especially Vincentian is its quiet emphasis on humility, closeness, service, and concrete love. There is no triumphalism here, no loud moralizing. Instead, children are invited to discover that loving like Jesus often happens in small, everyday ways: sharing toys, forgiving a friend, helping someone who is sad, caring for the Earth, or saying “yes” to God in simple trust.

The Songs:
Below is a brief introduction to each song, highlighting its message and purpose within the album’s overall vision.
1. We Are Friends: The opening song sets the tone for the entire album by celebrating friendship as a source of joy, strength, and belonging. With simple images of smiling, playing, holding hands, and helping one another, the song teaches children that friendship means being there for each other in both happy and difficult moments. It gently introduces the idea that togetherness makes us stronger, echoing the Vincentian belief that community is essential for love to grow.
2. Sing to God with Joy Today: This lively song invites children to see praise as something natural and joyful, woven into everyday life. Singing to God is not limited to church or special moments, but can happen at home, at school, in joy or sadness. God is presented as a loving presence who listens attentively, like a best friend, reinforcing a trusting and personal relationship with Him.
3. I Love My Family: Gratitude fills this song as children thank God for parents and siblings. Family is shown as a place of love, play, comfort, and security. By naming each family member with affection, the song helps children recognize family life as a gift from God and a first school of love, care, and faith.
4. Sharing Is Caring: Using everyday examples like toys, crayons, and time, this song teaches one of the most fundamental values of childhood: sharing. The message goes beyond objects to include emotional presence and kindness. Sharing becomes a way of loving others and building friendship, aligning perfectly with the Vincentian call to generosity and concern for others.
5. God Made the World: This song introduces children to creation as a beautiful gift from God. With vivid images of sky, oceans, animals, and stars, it nurtures wonder and gratitude. Children are reminded that God made the world, made each of us, and loves us all—laying the foundation for respect for creation and responsibility toward it.
6. The Green Team: Environmental care takes center stage in this playful and educational song. Through recycling, reusing, and reducing waste, children learn that caring for the planet is part of loving God’s creation. The song empowers children by showing that small actions matter and that everyone can be part of protecting our common home.
7. Mary Said Yes: Mary’s story is told with tenderness and simplicity, focusing on her listening heart and courageous trust in God. Children learn that saying “yes” to God does not require knowing everything in advance, but trusting in His love. Mary becomes a model of faith, humility, and openness for young listeners.
8. Hail, Mary: This musical setting of the Hail Mary introduces children to one of the Church’s most beloved prayers. The repetitive and gentle structure helps children memorize and pray it with reverence. It becomes both a song and a prayer, blending music and devotion naturally.
9. Doing Good Makes No Noise: Inspired by a well-known saying, sometimes credited to Saint Vincent de Paul, this song teaches children the beauty of quiet, humble service. Doing good is shown not as something to show off, but as an expression of love. The song encourages simple living, listening, patience, and generosity—core values of the Vincentian spirit.
10. God Is Good: With movement, clapping, and joyful repetition, this song helps children internalize a simple truth: God is good and God is near. The song connects praise with the body, allowing children to express faith through movement and joy while affirming God’s loving presence.
11. Look Up and Share the Day: Addressing screen use in a gentle and realistic way, this song encourages children to look up from devices and reconnect with people around them. Without condemning technology, it highlights the joy of real relationships, play, laughter, and shared experiences.
12. Name Above All: This song introduces children to the many titles of Jesus, helping them discover the richness of who He is. Through repetition and reverent language, children learn that Jesus is Savior, Shepherd, Friend, and King. The song invites awe and worship while remaining accessible.
13. Saint Vincent, Friend to All: Saint Vincent de Paul is presented as a kind and approachable friend who cared deeply for the poor and the forgotten. Children are invited to follow his example through small acts of kindness. The song makes Vincentian spirituality concrete and relatable for young listeners.
14. Love Like Jesus Loves: At the heart of the Gospel, this song reminds children that Jesus loves everyone and invites us to love the same way. Differences are celebrated, kindness is emphasized, and love is shown through actions. The message is inclusive, hopeful, and deeply Christian.
15. God Smiles at My Questions: This gentle song reassures children that curiosity and questions are welcome in faith. God is shown as patient, loving, and attentive. Asking questions becomes an act of trust rather than doubt, encouraging children to grow spiritually without fear.
16. A Forgiving Heart: Forgiveness is presented as a path to peace and strength. Children learn simple steps—breathing, calming down, choosing kindness—to let go of anger. The song empowers them to forgive and begin again, reinforcing emotional and spiritual growth.
17. We Praise God!: Full of energy and movement, this song turns praise into a celebration involving the whole body. Children are encouraged to express joy freely and recognize God’s love as the reason for their happiness and gratitude.
18. Everyday Angels: This song helps children recognize God’s love in the people around them: grandparents, teachers, friends, volunteers. It also invites them to become “everyday angels” themselves through kindness and care, reinforcing the Vincentian idea that love is lived concretely.
19. The Lord’s Prayer: Combining a child-friendly introduction with the traditional text, this song helps children learn and pray the Our Father meaningfully. It becomes a bridge between family prayer, personal faith, and the wider Church tradition.
20. Before I Close My Eyes: The album closes with a tender bedtime prayer song. Children are guided to reflect on their day, give thanks, ask forgiveness, and rest in God’s loving presence. It is a peaceful and comforting conclusion that leaves listeners with trust and hope.
We Are Friends is more than a collection of children’s songs. It is a pastoral tool, a catechetical resource, and a spiritual companion for families, schools, parishes, and Vincentian communities. By meeting children where they are—through music, joy, and simple language—it opens doors to faith that can remain open for a lifetime.
In a Vincentian key, the album reminds us that love is learned early, service begins small, and God is close to us. And perhaps most importantly, it teaches children—and the adults who sing along with them—that we truly are friends: with one another, with creation, and with God.
