On this same day, we also remember the conversion of Alphonse Ratisbonne, a French lawyer and banker of Jewish heritage whose life underwent a profound transformation following his conversion to Catholicism. He later became a priest and dedicated himself to promoting the Miraculous Medal. On January 20, 1842, while accompanying Baron Théodore de Bussières to the Church of Sant’Andrea delle Fratte in Rome for funeral preparations, Alphonse entered the church and experienced a miraculous vision of the Virgin Mary, radiant with light. Though she spoke no words, her silent presence illuminated for him the horror of sin, the truth of the Catholic faith, and the beauty of divine grace. In that single moment, he was filled with an intuitive understanding of the mysteries of the Church, prompting an immediate and lifelong conversion.
We also joyfully celebrate the foundation of the Blessed Trinity Missionary Institute, a community formed in 1964 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, through the visionary leadership of Dr. Margaret Healy, whose members live out their missionary vocation by taking private vows and serving within their everyday secular and family lives.
