The Vincentian Family Daily Intention: January 7, 2026

January 7, 2026

On January 7, 2026, we, the members of the Vincentian Family, pray for caregivers and those who accompany the sick and elderly.

Behind every sickbed or fragile body stands someone offering care—quietly, patiently, with love. Caregivers, often unpaid and unseen, reflect the tenderness of Christ. Their hands become His hands, their presence a healing balm.

Saint Louise de Marillac and the first Daughters of Charity dedicated themselves to the service of the sick and elderly, honoring each person as Christ Himself. Their witness calls us to do the same.

We pray for caregivers in hospitals, homes, and streets. For those overwhelmed with responsibility, for those who offer daily acts of mercy. May they be strengthened and consoled, and may we recognize and support their sacred work.

Word of God
“Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
(Galatians 6:2)

Prayer
Tender God, bless all who care for the sick and elderly. Give them strength when they are weary and comfort when they feel alone. May their love be a channel of Your healing, and may our communities support them with gratitude and compassion. Amen.

On this same day, we also joyfully celebrate the feast of Blessed Lindalva Justo de Oliveira, a Brazilian Daughter of Charity who gave her life in defense of her vocation and purity. Born in 1953 and martyred in 1993, she served the elderly and the poor with deep compassion in a Vincentian home for the aged. Her selfless love, unwavering faith, and courageous witness to Christ, even unto death, shine as a powerful example of holiness in the modern world.
We also joyfully celebrate the foundation of the Vincentian Lay Missionaries (Arkansas), established on January 7, 2007. Rooted in the charism of St. Vincent de Paul, this lay movement is dedicated to serving the Hispanic community through ministries of presence, accompaniment, and evangelization. With a strong commitment to faith formation and outreach, they bring the Good News to the peripheries, especially among immigrant and underserved populations, embodying the Vincentian spirit of love in action.
