The Vincentian Family Daily Intention: January 6, 2026

by .famvin | Jan 6, 2026 | Reflections, The Vincentian Family Daily Intention

On January 6, 2026, we, the members of the Vincentian Family, pray for the Church, that it may be poor and for the poor.

The Church is most authentic when it walks with the lowly, listens to the cries of the poor, and lives in simplicity. This is not just a call to charity but a radical return to the Gospel.

Saint Vincent taught that the Church must mirror Christ—humble, servant of all, especially the least. Pope Francis echoes this vision: a Church that goes out, gets dirty with the poor, and speaks with actions more than words.

We pray that all Christians may embrace this vocation: to be poor in spirit and rich in mercy. May our Church be less concerned with power and prestige, and more with compassion and justice.

    Word of God
“Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich.”
    (2 Corinthians 8:9)

    Prayer
Lord Jesus, You chose poverty to draw near to us. Make Your Church a true home for the poor, not only in word but in deed. Help us strip away all that distances us from those who suffer, and clothe us with humility, generosity, and zeal. Amen.

On this same day, we also joyfully celebrate the foundation of the Sisters of Charity under the Patronage of St. Vincent de Paul, established on January 6, 1939, by merging two older Institutes under a diocesan decree in Novara, Italy. This new Congregation embraced the Vincentian charism of prayer and humble service, dedicating itself to educating impoverished girls, caring for the sick in their homes, and spreading nearby acts of charity in Italy—in Piedmont, Lombardy, and Liguria—as well as in missions further afield, including Burundi, Brazil, and India.
