In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus addresses His disciples with a profound statement: “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.” With these words, He highlights the exceptional fortune of those who can understand and witness to who God truly is—the All-Merciful Father as revealed by Jesus himself.

This declaration by Jesus invites us to reflect on how humanity, throughout history and across cultures, has perceived the Divine. Understandings of God have varied widely. Some have viewed God as an illusion, others as a tyrant or punisher, and still others as a remote and indifferent observer. These contrasting perspectives underscore the complexity of human attempts to comprehend the true nature of the Deity.
In the place of these diverse characterizations, Jesus offers His followers a unique and invaluable gift. Through His life and teachings, Jesus reveals the Almighty Creator and Sustainer of the universe as a loving Father—one who cares deeply for His children, desires the best for them, and actively guides them each day toward His heavenly Kingdom.
This revelation is a source of immense blessing. It makes us once again take in the fervent joy of Jesus’ gracious proclamation: “Blessed are our eyes which (because of Jesus) can see what we see.” Thanks to Him who is our Savior, we can perceive the Almighty God not as distant or punitive, but as a loving, caring, and welcoming Parent—the Father and Mother who embraces us all.
In a conference about conforming to the will of God, Vincent voices his profound trust that the Supreme Deity is compassionately near us in the midst of daily living. “We entreat You, Almighty God, that always meditating on what is reasonable, we may do in word and act the things that are pleasing to you.” (Vol 12, p 134, March 1659)
