As a devout Episcopalian, Elizabeth regularly attended Trinity Church at the head of Wall Street (75 Broadway). It was here that she was confirmed by Bishop Provoost, and it remained a pillar of her spiritual life— until her conversion to Catholicism.
On January 25, 1794, William Magee Seton, aged 25, married Elizabeth Ann Bayley, daughter of physician Richard Bayley, first chief health officer of the City of New York, at St. Paul’s Chapel, Samuel Provoost, Rector of Trinity Church presiding.
Shortly after they married, Elizabeth and William Seton moved into a fashionable residence on Wall Street. Socially prominent in New York society, the Setons belonged to Trinity Episcopal Church.
