Ozanam’s final day came in Marseille, on the feast day celebrating the nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, September 8, 1853. Frédéric had lived for only forty years. He died at 9 Rue Montgrand in Marseille.

After a Mass for the repose of his soul was celebrated in Marseille, Frédéric’s body was transported to Lyon. A second funeral Mass was celebrated in Saint-Pierre, the church where he had made his First Communion.
