In a world torn apart by conflict—where war sows suffering and silences the most vulnerable—the cry for justice and peace grows urgent. As members of the Vincentian family, heirs to the fire of St. Vincent de Paul, we cannot remain indifferent to the pain of the poor, the displaced, and those who die unheard.
Now more than ever, we are called to be prophets in the darkness, voices in the wilderness, witnesses to a God who never abandons. This prayer rises from a deep longing: that our Father may fill us with strength, that through Christ He may move us to confront injustice and engage in the struggle for a reconciled world. May the Spirit walk with us and transform us into living instruments of His peace.
Join us with an open heart. Pray with us. Pray with those who suffer. Pray that God’s Kingdom may become an active hope in our broken world.
Vincentian Prayer for Justice and Peace
in Times of Darkness
God, our Father and Mother,
eternal source of mercy and love,
we lift our voices to You in this world’s hour of need,
as wars tear nations apart
and the poorest, the weakest,
those who have nothing,
bear once more the weight of sorrow.
You hear the cry of the oppressed,
and in Your Son, Jesus Christ,
You became one with their suffering.
Look with compassion on wounded humanity.
Let Your gaze pierce our hearts
and awaken in us the fire of Your Spirit—
the flame that burns but does not consume,
the same Spirit You sent upon Your Church
to make her a bold witness of the Gospel.
We pray, Lord,
for those who weep amid the roar of bombs,
for those who have lost their homes,
for those who have buried their children,
for those persecuted for their faith, their race,
their thirst for freedom.
Lay Your healing hand
on the wounds of people broken by injustice.
Father of all,
give us the courage of Your Son, Jesus—
the Prophet who condemned hypocrisy and stood with the poor,
the humble Messiah who faced power without fear
for the sake of Truth.
Make us prophets of Your Kingdom,
bold disciples of charity
in the spirit of St. Vincent de Paul,
who saw in every poor person a sacrament of Your presence.
Give us strength to raise our voices,
even when our flesh trembles,
even if the world withholds its praise,
even when it costs us dearly.
Do not let us rest while a single child goes hungry,
a single mother mourns without comfort,
a single family is shattered by war.
Holy Spirit,
consoler of the afflicted, strength of the weary,
descend upon the hardened hearts
of those who wield the power of weapons.
Make them see the horror their choices bring,
the human cost of their ambition.
Turn them into instruments of reconciliation,
not accomplices of hatred.
Walk with the missionaries of peace,
the defenders of human rights,
those who work for justice with quiet hands
and hearts on fire.
Grant them wisdom, prudence, and courage.
And to us, humble followers of Your Son,
make us bridges where walls divide,
voices for the voiceless,
and healing balm where violence reigns.
Lord,
do not let us grow numb to others’ pain,
do not let us turn away.
Rouse us from indifference,
and teach us to live charity
as a fight for the dignity of every person.
May our Christian communities
never be shelters of comfort,
but camps of hope and light
in the midst of this night.
We ask this, Father and Mother of all,
through Jesus Christ, Your beloved Son,
our Lord and brother,
who lives and reigns with You,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God forever and ever.
Amen.
