Fr. Tomaž Mavrič, C.M., Superior General of the Congregation of the Mission and the Daughters of Charity, has just released his latest book: The Decalogue of the Vincentian Jubilee. Now available in Spanish, English, Italian, and French, the book offers a spiritual and pastoral reflection on the meaning of jubilees, rooted in the teachings and legacy of St. Vincent de Paul.
Drawing on Vincent’s letters and conferences, Fr. Mavrič shows how the saint lived the jubilees of the 17th century as powerful moments of grace, conversion, and renewed missionary fervor. The book reveals how Vincent took these sacred times seriously, encouraging the Missioners and the Daughters of Charity to prepare spiritually and to embrace the jubilee as a call to deeper union with God and renewed service to the poor.
“Each time a jubilee was proclaimed, St. Vincent wrote to inform and inspire his communities,” says Fr. Mavrič. “He saw it as an opportunity for inner renewal and full dedication to the mission.”
Through direct quotes from St. Vincent and references to Scripture and the Magisterium, Fr. Mavrič presents a practical and hope-filled guide to living the jubilee today. At the heart of the book is a ten-point “Decalogue” that outlines key principles to celebrate the jubilee with depth and purpose.
A contemporary proposal for a Church that “goes forth”
The book comes at a particularly opportune time, in the midst of a world marked by uncertainty, suffering and the desire for reconciliation. Fr. Mavrič’s proposal aligns with Pope Francis’ calls to rediscover mercy, active charity and commitment to the most vulnerable.
With a direct and hopeful style, the author offers a useful tool not only for members of the Vincentian Family, but for all those who wish to live more deeply the times of grace offered by the Church.
