Advocating for Justice: Sisters of Charity at the UN Civil Society Forum
Sister Joetta Venneman, Office of Social and Environmental Justice, and Spalding Hurst, Director of Mission Advancement, attended part of the recent Civil Society Forum at the United Nations in New York. They were among a group of Sisters of Charity Federation communicators and social justice coordinators gathered in Queens to discuss the Federation’s goals and objectives.
The gathering aligned with the 63rd Session of the Commission for Social Development, which focused on strengthening solidarity, social inclusion, and cohesion to advance commitments under the Copenhagen Declaration and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
During the week, they participated in discussions on systemic change, collaboration within the Charity Federation, and enhancing communications around justice work. Their presence reinforced the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth’s commitment to advocacy and global social justice efforts.
