Bertin Sanon and Tomaz Mavric start a new six-year term.
The International General Council, on behalf of the entire International Confederation of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SSVP), congratulates the Congregation of the Religious of Saint Vincent de Paul (RSV) and the Congregation of the Mission (CM) on the reelection of their superiors general, which took place recently during the general assemblies of both institutions.
Father Bertin Sanon was born in 1968, in Bobo-Dioulasso (Burkina Faso). He was ordained a priest in 1998. He has served, as a priest, in Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso. In May 2014, he was elected 13 th Superior General of the Congregation of the Religious of Saint Vincent de Paul (founded in 1845 by Jean-Léon Le Prevost) and on May 8, 2022, Father Bertin was re-elected for a new six-year term. His entire family resides in Burkina Faso.
Father Tomaz Mavric was born in 1959 in Buenos Aires, the son of Slovenian parents who had migrated to Argentina, fleeing the communist advance in Eastern Europe. He was ordained a priest in 1983. He has served in Canada, Slovenia, Ireland, Slovakia, and Ukraine in various capacities and distinguished service. On July 5, 2016, he was elected the 25th Superior General of the Congregation of the Mission (founded by St. Vincent de Paul in 1625), and on July 2, 2022, his term has been renewed for another six years. He has four brothers and his mother lives in Bariloche.
“We ask the Holy Spirit to shower the two great Catholic leaders, Tomaz and Bertin, with blessings in this second phase of their mandates. The reelection of these world leaders of the different branches of the Vincentian Family is foreseen in the statutes of these entities and, moreover, it is a Vincentian tradition well accepted by all,” said brother Renato Lima de Oliveira, 16 th President General of the SSVP.
