HOUSING ASSISTANCE TO HOMELESS FAMILIES

By: Ednalyn Escobiñas

(Community Outreach Program Institutional Coordinator)

Sacred Heart College, through the Office of the Community Outreach Program, has assisted two families who were already owners of residential lots in Sito Ilayang Wakas, Tayabas City, Quezon Province in the Philippines. Financial assistance provided by anonymous sponsors amounting to Php 35,000.00 greatly helped them to construct better dwellings.

In September 2020 one family received Php 15,000.00 and another family received Php 20,000.00 on December 2020. The families were recipients because they were victims of displacement during the time of pandemic and were also affected by typhoon Ulysses.

The housing lot, labor and other house construction materials were shared by the recipient families. They are both members of the organized group of the Community Outreach Program. They said this community project was a concrete response to SDG #11 “Sustainable Cities and Communities which aims to ensure access for all to adequate safe and affordable housing and basic services and upgrade slums.”
