How the Congregation of the Mission Enriched the Early U.S.A.

When the Congregation of the Mission established themselves in the United States, French clergy were fleeing to America due to conflicts against Christianity, under Napoleon. At the time there was rapid expansion on the American frontier, but without the benefit of institutional supports (Universities, schools, hospitals, churches) that the settlers needed. This challenged the Congregation, along with the Daughters and Sisters of Charity, to focus their mission in these areas.
