For more than 40 years, the Children’s Village “Federico Ozanam” (VIFO), a center dependent on the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Peru, offers homes to children in extreme poverty, in orphanages or abandoned, or away from their biological families for various causes, minors of both sexes from 5 years of age. The center began its activity on March 13, 1976, as a result of an earthquake that occurred in Lima in 1970. It was then that the members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul began to provide first aid to the affected families and gave priority to so many children who remained in the orphanage; to this misfortune was added the terrorism that also left many children orphaned especially in the mountains (Ayacucho, Abancay).

The hostel operates in the district of Chilca, province of Cañete, located 63 km from Lima. The premises and all its facilities are property of the National Council of Peru. The V.I.F.O has the capacity to house 80 children, guided and educated by surrogate mothers or godmothers.

The National Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Peru is responsible for continuing the work begun by Federico Ozanam. The operation of the Federico Ozanam Children’s Village is managed by them. It is a shelter for children of both sexes in material and moral precariousness, where they are provided with housing, food, clothing, education, medical care, comprehensive training.
