A Second Cohort Begins the Margarita Naseau School (Honduras)

The Vincentian Family of Honduras founded the School of Lay Formation “Margarita Naseau” in 2013. This initiative was the result of the support received from the Daughters of Charity of Ecuador and Honduras, together with the Training Team led by Vincentian Fathers (of the Provinces of Barcelona and Zaragoza) and the executive council of HONDUFAVI-2013.

The aim of the school is to give a comprehensive formation in spiritual, moral, Christian and Vincentian values to lay people in any branch of the Family or to those who wish to deepen and commit themselves to our charism. The academic framework includes three areas of study: personal growth, catechetics and Vincentianism. Initially, the school operated with a single site in the municipality of San Pedro Sula, Cortés. The complete program lasts 2 years, with a total of 6 quarters, including classroom and home study.

One of the first fruits harvested of this school was to have graduated the first class “P. Manuel Botet” in January of this year 2016; in which 16 laymen and laywoman from various regions of the country received a diploma of recognition for their commitment to serve future classes of this school, to support with more dedication in their respective communities, associations or conferences.

Recently, last September 2016, we accepted the second cohort of the school, with the opening of a second site in Tegucigalpa (added to the other location in San Pedro Sula), in order to facilitate attendance and reduce costs to the participants. We have 13 brothers and sisters enrolled in the North Region and 17 brothers and sisters in the Center-South Region (a total of 30 participants). We are very happy for the multiplier effect of each of the laity committed to this formation.

Through the Office of the Vincentian Family, with the leadership for Central America of Fr. Flavio Pereira, C.M., Honduras has shared all the books we use at the Margarita Naseau School so that in a near future they can be used by other countries in the region.

We ask the Vincentian Family of all continents to pray for these 30 new participants to persevere in this formation process.
