dc-seal-colorSister Monique Javouhey, representing the Company of the Daughters of Charity at the United Nations, shares the news below from the UN in Geneva:

[UN – NGO] for the 25th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the International Catholic Child Bureau (Bureau International Catholique de l’Enfance – BICE) organized a campaign to denounce and prevent harassment, in all forms but especially in the media, against children and adolescents. We are very concerned with this new form of violence that has been getting progressively stronger the last few years.

Being a member of BICE, the Company was invited and strongly encouraged to sign a petition that you can find in the first page at the site: www.bice.org It is also our responsibility to widely disseminate this petition around us, to high schools, youth groups, families, friends…

The site www.bice.org is well done, presented in English, Spanish and French. It is regularly updated and gives much information about different activities proposed for youth in 25 countries around the world. You can read the account of the meeting of a delegation from BICE with Pope Francis this past 11 April.

The result of this petition will be formally presented :

to the Committee of the Rights of the Child which will meet in September 2014, and will be organizing a day to celebrate the 25 years of the Convention,
and during an event organized in Rome by the pontifical Council of Justice and Peace before the end of 2014.
Your signature will strengthen the struggle by BICE against the harassment of young people. It is a reality which touches us. Thank you for your collaboration.
