j Patrick MurphyDePaul University President Dennis Holtschneider, C.M. has appointed J. Patrick Murphy, C.M., Ph.D. to assist Depaul International, an NGO headquartered in London, as part time Values Director.

“Depaul International is the parent company of a group of charities working to support homeless and marginalizes people around the world. Each year we work with over 10,000 people in our subsidiary countries.” Currently the work takes place in the U.K., Ireland, Slovakia, Ukraine and the USA.

Murphy received his doctorate from Stanford University in higher education administration in 1987. He also holds an MA in sociology from Stanford, an MBA from DePaul and a Master of Divinity. He chaired the School of Public Service from 1994 through June, 2012. In 2003 he founded the  William and Mary Pat Hay Vincent de Paul Leadership Project and serves as its chair.

Murphy teaches management and leadership courses. In 2010 he received a Fulbright scholarship to teach at the business school of the Pontifical Catholic University of Parana in Curitiba, Brazil. He has lectured or taught in Brazil, India, Ireland, France, the Philippines, Taiwan, Kenya and the Ukraine. His next international teaching destinations are All Hallows College, Dublin, Ireland, in June, 2014, and Cuba in 2015.

Murphy has authored or edited four books: Lideranca e Gestao da Educacao Superior Catolica nas Americas; Dinossauros, Gazelas & Tigres Novas Abordagens Da Administracao Universitaria Um Dialogo Brasil e Estados Unidos2 Edicao Ampliada, both with Victor Meyer, Jr.; Visions and Values in Catholic Higher Education; College Leadership: Sharing the Vision.
