THE VINCENTIAN PARTNERSHIP FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE
Ireland: Brief of Irish organisation’s expertise both in terms of main activities the Vincentian Partnership for Social Justice has facilitated an Active Citizenship/Voter Education Programme with approximately 400 community groups and has trained approximately 150 community workers/leaders in facilitating the programme. The Vincentian Partnership for Social Justice has played a leading role in establishing the National Active Citizenship Network – the members of which actively promote active citizenship/voter education (participation in the democratic electoral process) and ongoing participation in civic society. Both the Vincentian Partnership for Social Justice and the National Active Citizenship Network are non-party political.
The Vincentian Partnership for Social Justice consists of The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, The Vincentian Congregation,The Daughters of Charity and The Sisters of the Holy Faith.
The Vincentian Partnership was established in 1996 to work for social and economic change tackling poverty and exclusion.
CURRENT ACTIVITIES
- Continue work on developing data for a living wage
- Completing work on households with an adult child
- Facilitate workshops in preparation for Local and EU Elections 2014
Frederic Ozanam – Annual Lecture 2013
The 2nd Annual Frederic Ozanam Lecture on 24th Oct 2013 was attended by 85 members of the Vincentian Family. The opening reflection and presentations showed the relevance for today of Frederic Ozanam’s understanding of causes for poverty. For him the main questions related to poverty was a political and social one. It continues to remain so.
