God is Calling – Please don’t put Him on hold.

Vincentian Day of Prayer and Fast – Tuesday November 12, 2013

God is Calling – Be an answer to prayer – Dutiful Servant -Living and Dying in Jesus

Dear Vincentian Family and friends:  Each of you continues to be in my prayers.  Some of you are traveling and others are facing a crisis in your families.  I pray our Lord will be present to each one of you in good times and in bad, through good health and difficulties.  One thing we can count on for sure is the ever presence of our Lord.  Let us offer prayers for the remembrance of all veterans in all wars.  Yesterday, in Canada was a day to celebrate veterans, to honour all who served and to pray for peace.  Pray for peace around the world and begin with ourselves.  Lord hear our prayers!  Amen

God is Calling – Please don’t put Him on hold. We sometimes forget God and think we can do things ourselves.  We rely on our ideas and forget God’s call.  He calls us as Vincentians to serve.  We can try to challenge Him when we are frustrated with service to some of our individuals or families we can ignore His way, but not for long.  He is calling us to be embraced and He remains present in all our work.  He is ever present and tireless in His calling for each of us.   Thanks be to God for His patience with us and His steadfast love.  Pope Francis tells us to never give way to discouragement between the Church and the world.  We always need to answer the call.  When I think of service, I often think of Joseph.  He is the Patron Saint of Canada and of workers.  Joseph was a worthy disciple.  He answered the Father’s call and took care of the Son through true obedience.  He answered and lived God’s will.  He was content in doing so.  He served Mary and Jesus and daily beheld the love of God and never turned from his call or his face.  St. Theresa of Avila said, “We need no wings to go in search of Him but have only to find a place where we can be alone, and look upon Him present within us.”

Be an answer to Prayer – As Vincentians, we get the call and we go.  Sometimes we may not want to, but we go anyway. We pray for those who we encounter behind the door.  We don’t think of ourselves as an answer to prayer, or an angel or anything except a servant of the poor, a Vincentian.  Sometimes our family and friends don’t understand and sometimes we really do need a break.  We pray and then knock on the door.  We know the nicest place to be is in someone’s thoughts and we bring our Lord to keep us safe and those we serve safe and in our prayers.  We know the best place to be is in His hands and we bring them to Him.  We receive a hug and told we are the answer to their prayers.  We do not know how to react, but we should react with joy, as we have been praying for those behind the door, and God sent them us.  Put on your best face of God and give thanks for Him allowing you to serve and for being an answer to someone’s prayer.

Dutiful Servant – Each one of us is accountable to God.  Know as a servant of God, you are called to do His will.  He gives His servant a good deal of help and many gifts.  The best is the Trinity, as servant we are never alone.  As a dutiful servant, we endeavour to do His will.  Through all of this, we are treated well.  Service is an attitude and each day we are called to serve, family, friends, the Church and strangers.  In today’s gospel Luke 17:7-10, it makes us lack the understanding of sitting down at the table and have the master serve you.  I believe we are being called to be of service each day in our lives.  We are gifted and loved and rewarded in our service, but that is not why we do it.  We do it out of love and duty.  Pope Francis recently appointed new Bishops saying they should always be in service.  This is the message our Pope is giving and it is the message of Jesus, “The greatest among you must be servant.”

Living and Dying in Christ – Dying in Jesus does not always mean martyrdom; just as living in Jesus doesn’t necessarily mean Sainthood or death.  It could mean you are in training for Sainthood.  We live in Jesus and learn from Him by reading the Gospel and praying.  We imitate Him in our service and call Him to live in us, so we may bring Him to others.  Dying in Jesus to me means, we die to the many worldly trappings and want to be like Jesus.  It means we love like Jesus and we die to ourselves.  Do you believe in the Resurrection?  As Christians, we believe that someday we will experience a resurrection like Christ’s after we depart from this present earthly “age” or stage of life. All believers who follow Jesus will live as the angels do. This is why Catholic funeral Masses are Resurrection Masses and use white instead of black as the liturgical color.

Please pray for one of our translators, who is experiencing immigration problems.  He is a good person and needs our prayers.  Please pray for a family of six I am working with.  Mom is a recent widow and she has serious health issues, one child also has serious health issues and one child is suicidal due to school bullying.  She needs our prayers.

Please visit Famvin.  There are a few sites to visit.  Also enjoy the You Tube song by Steve Green, “Find us Faithful”. visit You Tube for this song and others of his.

Blessings,  Lynn
